What is International Jazz Day?
International Jazz Day, created in 2011, is an international day declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and annouced by pianist and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, Herbie Hancock.
The first celebration of international Jazz Day took place in 2012. The commemoration aims to highlight the importance of this musical genre and its contribution to promoting differente cultures and peoples throughout history. Jazz is associated with the struggles for freedom, the pursuit of creativity and human expression, and the promotion of unity among people around the world.

Jazz day at Affinity Arts
Affinity Arts is the only brazilian school participating in the global “International Jazz Day” movement, created by UNESCO in partnership with the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz based in Washington, DC.

2019
In 2019, our Music Coordinator, Serge Frasunkiewicz, received a letter from Herbie Hancock regarding the celebration held by our school that year.
2020
This year, we participated in International Jazz Day for the third time, with a LIVE broadcast that took place on May 1, 2020, on our Instagram page. The performance featured great musicians who are also parents and partners of our school. On December 23 of that same year, our Music Coordinator, Serge Frasunkiewicz, received a letter from Herbie Hancock regarding the celebration held by our school in 2020.

Join us on April 30 for a day filled with rhythm, soul, and creativity! We are celebrating the global spirit of jazz with an immersive experience for our students and the entire school community. Morning: Little Rhythms Our preschoolers will explore the world of jazz through movement and color: * Jazz Yoga with Rossana Alves: A playful, rhythmic session for the children to find their flow. * Art & History: Painting to the beat and discovering the legends who shaped the music.
