Since 1996

​Affinity Arts began its educational activities in 1996, with Early Childhood Education and Ballet training. Its founders, North American educators and musicians, were driven by the dream of creating an international educational model, based on the principle of unity in diversity and in the promotion of the arts. The program, carefully tailored for Early Childhood development, was a pioneer in the city by including Musicalization and visual arts in the curriculum. The school also became known for promoting informal musical gatherings for Brasilia’s community, receiving local and international artists, thus encouraging cultural growth in the city.

​Quality is fundamental in the environment of Affinity Arts. The music offered is of a high level; the art projects are varied, attractive, and creative; the literature and the virtues that are taught are valuable in a world that seeks comprehension, moderation, and mutual cooperation. We see each child as a point of light for the future and we are engaged in helping them develop their multiple abilities. ​

Methodology

At Affinity Arts, the diversity of ideas and the construction of knowledge occurs through an interdisciplinary program that in practice also flows into a transdisciplinary approach. The school uses innovative methods and pedagogical practice supported by scientific research related to Neuroscience and Education based on brain plasticity and the importance of encouragement, thus providing resources and opportunities for the child to fully develop skills and potentials. Affinity Arts uses a combination of teaching
theories and methodologies, influenced by Loris Malaguzzi, Lev Vygotsky, Maria de Montessori, John Dewey and Jean Piaget, in addition to psychology methods developed by Dr. Rudolf Dreikurs (stimulation of cooperative behavior without punishment or reward) and Dr. Marshall Rosenberg (nonviolent communication).

One of the adopted strategies is training the mind with Yoga. The classes are taught once per week. To learn to be calm, work with breathing, and stretch the muscles, helps to regulate emotions and raise concentration and attention. Within all of this context, the children are motivated to question, to seek answers, and to make decisions, seeing the solution to the problems and using the various forms of language to achieve the solutions: movement, words, paintings, model making, music, and interpretation.
