On the last two Saturdays, 23rd and 30th of March, Affinity offered a course to new English teachers as of August, 2018, in positive communication techniques for young children. The facilitator was Mrs. Sue Frasunkiewicz. Discussion included such topics as how to approach mistakes made by children and to avoid negative criticism, the difference between I messages and You messages, concentrating and building on positive characteristics of children towards the creation of a healthy and courageous self-image and learning to listen to children rather than resorting to judgmental comments, moralizing or ignoring. Observations by teachers were welcomed and added greatly to the classes. In these special classes, the teachers learned about the use of encouragement as one of the most powerful tools a teacher has, winning cooperation, and the use of logical consequences in the classroom. The two classes together were given in a total of five hours of study, and teachers expressed appreciation and enjoyment. Affinity seeks to regularly train the staff in the latest and most effective educational techniques in numerous refresher courses during the school year in order to insure that we offer the best quality to our children and their parents.
